I've been too tired to blog..

work and school stresses me out these days.

I'm taking Construction classes and it's draining me more than anything..

The news about McQueen depressed/depresses me a lot.

NYFW passed. I never took part.

Maybe a couple of meetups, yes.

Got home late last night, tired (for the Nth time) but I felt I needed do more things..

One of my beloved professors had asked us to watch a video about McQueen.

The thought of it gave me goosebumps.

I watched and it was the best thing I did the whole day!!

Didn't feel tired at all afterwards!

This is the part when I shut up and share the love..

RIP McQ.

You inspire me now more than ever before.

I wanna be a PINK SHEEP too.

i discovered something new about me in my first class at Parsons...

that i can actually draw =)

i knew i was bad at it so i never tried until yesterday..

i just know i suck at it big time so i actually dreaded the thought

of having to go through it at school -

i'm not gonna say, i'm pretty good at it

but my first illustration wasn't THAT bad =)

and NO, that's not my sketch below

that's pretty much how we were taught

to do the basic Fashion illustration...

i still have a looong way to go and

i'm sooo freaking HUNGRY for more!!

I was and still am one of the boys.
I try not to shop as much as I can.

I hate drama - I like to keep things light and fresh.
I can't sleep without a blanket.
I love neutral colors but end up getting flashy and bold ones when I shop.
A close friend used to call me Lisa Frank.
I wore school uniforms more than half of my life.
I prefer fancy jewelries than diamonds.
My everday purse weighs 10 lbs.
I love purses more than shoes.
I passed my written driving test by letting the DMV guy dictate the answers -- not my fault, he was more than willing to do so!!
I drive pretty good though.
Besides the fact I don't have the $$, I don't buy designer clothes.
Topshop has always been my favorite since 2001/2002.
I don't mind waiting, I'd rather be than have others do for me.
I dislike chain "letters" but can't say NO to: Janet , Kaela and Christine :)

The next day we had more walking to do and we started off at The Shops, Columbus Circle.

Saw these cute Manila shorts:)

Friday: Out with the old (picture overload)

Bianca came to visit =) She's been to Ithaca for 2 weeks now to attend school and was absolutely delighted to see the city once again!!

Shopping while we wait for Bianca...

PJ and I met with Bianca and her friends in one of the most interesting places I've been so far - It's in the best kept secret location in Midtown - it's Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien.

Marble lobby, giant mirrors, front desk - everything you'd expect in a hotel, you'll see right when you get in.

One would notice an oddly huge red velvety tarp -

but a curious one will see this small neon burger sign that'll lead you to the entrance.

Expect to see in the crowd college kids to Midtown workers to opera-goers - the line can go all the way out the door and finding tables can be worse than a sample sale!!

You spend $7 or more for the burger but is it worth it?? YES! You can easily compare the taste to that of In-N-Out's or Five Guys' -- I'll leave it all to you to decide :)

Perfect way to burn the burger: WALK. We walked from 56th Street and 7th Ave. to 60th Street and 3rd Ave. only to find ourselves in front of Serendipity 3 LOL!

Most men dress a lot better than women now – which is actually a great thing! I especially adore how they make skinny jeans work!! I certainly think they look better wearing them than women :) I’m simply amazed how they would not accessorize and still look fashionable!!

I guess this pretty much explains why I’m fascinated with androgynous styling – Emmanuelle Alt has an AMAAAAZING style and models like Freja, Irina, and Erin appeal to me more than any others.

Most designers carry these styles now but check out Resort 2010 – clothes are slouchier at Burberry Prorsum, more tomboy-charmed at 3.1 Phillip Lim for women. And it gets even better – sequins and drop corset belts at Ann Demeulemeester and whaaa?? TIGHTS at Givenchy for men!!

Before we went to see Bruno, PJ and I (and a friend) had late lunch at the Japanese grocery store by Edgewater, NJ. Despite the vast selection of great food, we always end up getting our favorite Katsu-don - breaded porkchop with egg over rice :)

got some candies too!!! :)

After pigging-out, we finally got to the movie house. In the middle of the movie just when Bruno was introduced as Straight Dave, the alarm went off!!! At first we thought it was all part of the act but NO!! eventually, everybody was forced to go out. Before we know it, the fire trucks and police cars arrived and surrounded the place!

To cut it short, we didn't get to see the ending -- bummer. But YES, we got free tickets for next week!!! LOL

He picked her up, drove down to 6th and 1st Ave. and parked.

He had Arroz con Pollo - Classic Cuban chicken and yellow rice.

Sorry, they were too hungry and didn't bother to take pictures anymore. :)

They had Tres Leches for dessert.

After dinner, they went to a friend's birthday party.

When I went to Met last 4th, I was looking forward to take pictures and share them all here – I neglected the fact that it is a special exhibit thus cameras won’t be allowed. True enough, we only got to pose with the infamous “Christian-Dior-with-assistant-Yves-Saint-Laurent” black with white silk satin evening gown and the life-size elephants. :)

The iconic muses, fashion photography, haute couture and RTW’s from different eras are what you should expect to see in the exhibit – models Dorian Leigh, Sunny Harnett, and Twiggy are featured alongside contemporary models like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Kate Moss - designers Charles James to Cristobal Balenciaga to Pierre Cardin & Paco Rabanne to Yves Saint Laurent.. the list just goes on...

I thought the entire exhibit was incredible and as expected, Marc Jacobs did an awesome job paying tribute not only to The Model(s) as Muse(s), but to the Fashion Industry as a whole :)

Once upon a time...

For the past couple of days, I've been busy entertaining old friends. Whenever we have guests visiting NY, I never fail to remember the things I've went through with them and can't help but look back and feel fulfilled on how fun we all spent our teenage years together. Most of my friends are from highschool and a few of them already got hitched and gave birth to beautiful kids, just like Nicole and Chris. For 15 months now, they are blessed with a happy (and I mean really HAPPY) baby boy named Santino.

FRIDAY: PJ and I, together with Kaisser, took them Upstate to Woodbury Commons, met with another good old friend, Bianca and drove back to the city right after.

I am always at a loss when I think about defining my own personal style. Best thing I love about fashion is that anyone can be a style chameleon! I think it’s all about knowing what looks good on you and what keeps you exceptional. Defining one’s style, in my opinion, will only limit one’s choice to be FUN, CREATIVE and BOLD!

I have yet to post different wardrobes but below are some old pictures showing my weakness to try on distinctive styles :)

March vs Parade?

"The first NYC Gay Pride March was held in 1970 and is the oldest gay pride parade. The March has been and will continued to be called a March not a Parade until there is full equality for the LGBTQ community."

Today they held the 2009 Gay Pride March which started at 52nd and 5th Ave and ended at Greenwich Village. As expected, it was colorful, fun, loud and packed!! Below are a few of my favorite shots I took -- sorry I'm only 5'3" so expect the worst of the view... LOL. still tried though :) Kudos to the lovely guy who let me took his spot!!!

One summer Friday

Summer Fridays maybe unheard of in the West Coast -- here in the East, some employers entitle employees Friday half days or for some like me, whole days off.

Spent my first sunny (thank god!) summer Friday where else but the city - I got 2 this year!

In my favorite neighborhood, SoHo - an acronym for SOuth of HOuston (pronounced as how-stun) --- the right picture was taken inside of Y-3, you gotta love friendly sales associates :)

A great day was completed by a trip to our favorite Yakitori resto - Oh! Taisho

Fixation on Breakfast at Tiffany's

Hands down, my favorite film of all time is Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I can’t fully describe my obsession on this movie but suffice it to say, I own a DVD copy, downloaded it on my mac and ipod so I can watch it wherever I am and whenever I feel like it.

The film was based on Truman Capote’s novel but it’s also a showcase of classic styles. A fashion show in its own way. Up until now, after having seen it countless times , I’m still in deep awe of how chic Audrey Hepburn was in the film. Personally, I think this catapulted her into the fashion icon that she is now. My god, almost 50 years later Holly Golightly’s movie wardrobe is still very much in fashion! Isn’t that astonishing? The little black dress, black alligator pumps, bold necklaces and earrings, huge hats, trench coat and wayfarer sunglasses -these were all prominent throughout the film and yet when you think about it they’re still in the mainstream.

Audrey Hepburn collaborated with Hubert de Givenchy in the costume design for this film and boy they pulled them off with aplomb!

And if there’s one thing this movie taught me in effortless styling, it would be to zero in on key pieces that will last for seasons to come. So let me quote Holly when she asked Paul after putting on the black dress, black alligator pumps, huge black hat with a bow and the statement earrings in less than 5 minutes.

Holly Golightly: How do I look?
Paul Varjak: Very good. I must say, I'm amazed.

Like most people do, I dress up depending on my mood. Worst to catch me is when at work and when it's raining. I never dress up to go to work (unless of course I have plans after), it's just that the environment doesn't call for it and I don't see the point flaunting your style with a bunch of suit-slaves. LOL. I kid. I dress comfortably -- as in flats -- as stress gets into me quite evidently and wearing heels 24/7 isn't a great idea after all. Just the same when it's raining, you can either see me wearing a pair of rain boots or my docs just as this past Saturday - it poured at one point.

A friend picked me up to go to the city - we went to Met to meet with another.

The museum is sooo close to work and I honestly take that for granted. I'm embarrassed to say that that was my first visit -- definitely a HUGE mistake on my part. Even if I didn't get to see the Costume Institute (what luck! the section was closed that day, nevertheless, I still plan to visit again soon!), I found their collection AMAZING , from paintings to sculptures and artifacts -- please note that this is coming from a person who doesn't like going to museums that much so it REALLY is worth the visit! :)

Enjoyed a banana and hazelnut creme crepe at Max Brenner's with PJ and friends afterwards.

You must be wondering how the 3 of us look like. LOL blame it all on G. We had plans last Friday that we were all going to have dinner and celebrate the launch of our blog and of course take some pictures – and guess what happened!?! As always, G managed to wreck the plans worse, hurt herself. Poor thing. She tripped while wearing her gold Tory Burch FLATS!?!? She ended up in the ER and left after 6-7 hours. Talk about emergency! I guess that’s quite an introduction for our beloved friend… get well soon b*tch! That's what you get for getting too excited to wear your Givenchy heels!!! :p *jealous* hehehe

Ten Essential Wardrobe Elements

1. Basic Black Dress - The basic black dress has been around for a long time. It is often called the "Little Black Dress", and it's true that shorter skirts on the basic black dress, when they hit you in the right place, can be more flattering than a long black dress.

2. Trench Coat - The trench coat is one of the pieces that is both classic and currently a hot fashion item. Most any store sells this piece now. It is great for fall and you can pick it up in a wide range of lengths.

3. Dress Pants - Although it doesn't say black, this is probably what you want to look for. Black is flattering on all figures and goes with everything.

4. Classic Shirt - The white shirt is a definite classic. But it can also come in many different styles to make it look trendy and not dated or like a man's piece of clothing. Find one that accentuates your best attributes and minimizes trouble spots. For example, if you have wide shoulders, stay away from large collars.

5. Jeans - Everyone has a pair of jeans, but does everyone have a pair of jeans that make them look great? The wider leg, low-rise jean style has been popular (and still is) but a narrower leg is coming back along with a higher waist, which eliminates the unflattering "muffin top" look.

6. Any Occasion Top - Find something you look great in that can look respectable under a jacket but bring on the fun after hours.

7. Skirt - If you need dress pants then you also need a skirt. A skirt is womanly and can be flirty or businesslike. Nowadays women do not wear many skirts or dresses, which makes a lot of them fall into a rut of dressing sloppily or like men. See number 8.

8. Day Dress - Women also are not wearing as many dresses anymore. It was certainly liberating to go from the '50s when women wore dresses every day to wearing more practical pants for gardening, exercising, and so forth. But the dress does not have to be abandoned altogether. They can be very flattering, and there is nothing wrong with "dressing up" for daytime.

9. Jacket - A jacket does not have to be masculine. Find one with a proper, fitted shape. Women's jackets should follow the silhouette of a woman's body and accent the hourglass curve at her waist. It is also a perfect piece to put with the skirt or dress pants, and white shirt. Or make it casual with a pair of jeans.

10. Sweatsuit Alternative - As mentioned before, women wear fewer skirts and dresses these days. But some women have taken casual to the extreme and spend days on end in sweatsuits. It is possible to be casual and comfortable without looking like a slob. Find a comfortable material (that's why this doesn't say jeans again – denim is not as comfortable as a nice soft cotton) that you would want to wear every day. It could be khakis, cords, a cotton dress, or much more.
